Celebrating the Independence Day of Bulgaria – 22 September

22 September is one of the most important dates for my country because we celebrate the Independence of Bulgaria. On this day 104 years ago, in 1908, Prince Ferdinand of
Bulgaria declared the independence of the country from the Ottoman Empire. This happened 30 years after the Liberation of Bulgaria in the church “St. Forty Martyrs” in my town Veliko Turnovo.
The celebrations started in the church “St. Forty Martyrs” where the manifesto of Prince Ferdinand of Bulgaria was read and Veliko Turnovo’s bishop performed a liturgy. Then the celebration continued at the ancient fort “Tsarevets” where there were floral tributes at the Pyramid of Independence. There were different interesting performances all day long which finished with a big traditional Bulgarian dance called “horo” and fireworks. Some of the IB students and the eight graders took part in the celbrations and presented our school American College "Arcus".
I feel proud that I am Bulgarian and from the tenacity of our ancestor who devoted their life to the Independence of the country. Their dedication was important so that Bulgarians could  be an united nation!

Честит празник!
